Find Your Why And What

1 987

I think a lot of YouTubers suffer from a lack of purpose and focus, by that I mean a lot of people haven’t set any goals or really questioned the stuff they do on YouTube and for the most part up until recently so did I. But the turning point for me was deciding a core goal and finding out the why’s and the what.

There’s two questions that I think would help some YouTubers if you answered them, not in the comments if you don’t want to but write them down in your notes on your phone or on a pad and keep them. So the questions are:

  • Why should people subscribe to you?
  • What value do your videos provide to the viewers?

When you answer those questions you’ll find that your channel will have a true purpose and you and your videos will be shaped around them. Because when you have some clearly defined reasons to watch, people will come over to you. It’s like how people watch documentaries to learn things, they watch comedy shows to laugh, drama (not the YouTube kind) shows to feel. What do yours do?

For example my goal as a statement is: By using over 10 years of marketing, my time on YouTube and research I want to pass on the knowledge to as many people as possible to help others so they have the knowledge on how to make their YouTube channels, videos and exposure as good as they can so they can make real connections with real people, which in turn will ultimately help them grow.

That’s the goal, summed up into:

Learn More. Do More. Be More.

So now all my videos and blog posts are surrounded by this overall “mantra” and everything I’m doing. The channel still has biker things in them like the reviews of gear and still underlying the shitty but honest reviews is a want to help people. In the reviews case it’s to help people decide on what gear to use and not buy something that’s total rubbish. In the short clips it’s now going to be used to highlight the dangers of the road but still in a clickbaity fun way. Everything is singing from the same hymn sheet & paddling the same way so to speak.

And that is how I’ve found my purpose, to pass on knowledge and help others. It’s given me focus on YouTube instead of being just another motovlogger and quite frankly it’s why I’ve seen growth recently (double the amount of subs per month, triple the views and triple the watch time compared to the months before).

Find your why and what.

  1. Q:1 ) I couldn’t give a pigs burp whether people sub to me or not, therefore screwing up the idea of youtube vlogging 😆
Q:2)Absolutely nothing of value can be gleaned from watching my videos, apart from learning that I’m mentally unstable and tend to drop my bikes frequently 😆
